Present mainly during hot summer months, excessive sweating is a condition which causes discomfort to a large number of individuals. Main weapons against sweating and unpleasant odors that it causes are various kinds of deodorants and creams, wearing light clothes, which isn’t always appropriate, for example if you have a meeting or if you are conducting an important presentation at work. There is a far better solution for this condition and it’s very effective when it comes to dealing with excess sweat.

In an effort to find a permanent solution to excess sweating or hyperhidrosis which is what the experts are calling it, researchers have devised a treatment which involves lasers, more precisely laser energy to deal with this condition. Main culprit for sweating are our sweat glands, they are small tubular structures which produce sweat. Laser surgery basically removes them from the desired area of the skin, and since they no longer exist, there can be no more sweating.

The procedure is very quick, minimally invasive and in most cases uses tumescent anesthesia to numb the area which will be treated. The area is then covered with a mixture of povidone-iodine and starch powder. Very short time after that the area will start to sweat because of the reaction to the applied chemicals and places on which the sweat glands are located will turn brown because of the reaction to the starch powder. After that the locations of the sweat glands are marked and entry points for the probe are marked as well. In order to remove the sweat glands, a probe is used to deliver a cable through which the laser energy will be delivered. Sweat gland will basically be destroyed by the laser energy, but it’s not as horrible as it sounds and there are no harmful side effects. Treatments usually destroy between sixty and seventy percent of the glands, which is more than enough in most cases, but if the problem still persists, you should repeat the procedure. After the treatment is done you should be able to go home immediately.

If you are unsure about this procedure or you think that it’s to risky, you could always try to deal with excessive sweating problem with botox, which is not invasive to the extent that the laser procedure is. In either case you should consult with your physician and she/he will tell you all the important information in general about these treatments and important information specific for your case.
